Silicon Connect at SSN College of Engineering
A unique mix of a hackathon and workshop, Silicon Connect at SSN College of Engineering saw a mix of hackers and aspiring student entrepreneurs working on ideas and prototypes. As part of the initiative, the students of Lakshya (SSN’s E Cell) will video conference with entrepreneurs and CEOs from Silicon Valley (California) who will guide them on the viability of their ideas and prototypes.
The workshop is third in a series of workshops which informs aspiring student entrepreneurs on different aspects of starting and running a venture. The third workshop focused on reverse engineering business plans of Starbucks, Hero Honda and Nike among other existing companies and brands.
Among the apps of the Hackathon, two caught our interest - Badge It and Trackash. Badge It is an app developed by the duo of Karthik Subramanian and Madhumita Viswanathan. The app automates the process of creating badges for events. Instead of labouring away for hours on designing software platforms, Badge It allows the user to use pre-existing templates or upload new ones, choose format & fonts, and simply upload a list of names to create and print badges. The fact that the app has been used by different events including TATA First Dot shows the popularity of the app. The app also won the Google Apps Developer Challenge 2012 in the Not for profit category.
Trackash is an expense tracker Android app that allows the user to record, track and analyze their expenses through a simple interface. The app is developed by Mukund M and Isaac John, and is already available for download on Google Store. If you are a spendthrift then download this app and read more about it here.
